چکیده

Universal Dependencies (UD) is a project that is developing crosslinguistically consistent treebank annotation for many languages, with the goal of facilitating multilingual parser development, cross-lingual learning and linguistic research from a language typology perspective. It is a merger and extension of several previous efforts aimed at finding unified approaches to parts of speech, morphosyntactic descriptions and syntactic dependency relations. In the present contribution we address the application of UD to Slavic languages. We devote the most space to peculiarities of pronouns, determiners, numerals and quantifiers. Other language features that are discussed include modal verbs, ellipsis, nominal predicates, and reflexive pronouns. Most of our examples are from Czech but the language features demonstrated are usually portable to other Slavic languages. We include examples from the other languages where appropriate.

Universal Dependencies for Serbian in Comparison with Croatian and Other Slavic Languages

The paper documents the procedure of building a new Universal Dependencies (UDv2) treebank for Serbian starting from an existing Croatian UDv1 treebank and taking into account the other Slavic UD annotation guidelines. We describe the automatic and manual annotation procedures, discuss the annotation of Slavicspecific categories (case governing quantifiers, reflexive pronouns, question particle...

Read, Tag, and Parse All at Once, or Fully-neural Dependency Parsing

We present a dependency parser implemented as a single deep neural network that reads orthographic representations of words and directly generates dependencies and their labels. Unlike typical approaches to parsing, the model doesn’t require part-of-speech (POS) tagging of the sentences. With proper regularization and additional supervision achieved with multitask learning we reach state-of-the...

Automatic Symbol Processing for Language Model Building in Slavic Languages

When we want to adapt an existing automatic speech recognition system to a new language, we need a large corpus of texts to create a lexicon, a language model and a database of annotated recordings to train an acoustic model. Usually the texts in the corpus (or in annotations) contain not only words but also some other symbols, mainly strings of digits, special characters and some frequent abbr...

A Jakobsonian Feature Based Analysis of the Slavic Numeric Quantifier Genitive*

This paper subjects the GB parametric account of variation in Slavic numeral systems put forward in Franks (1995) to critical scrutiny from the perspective of minimalism. It is argued that the true nature of the variation lies in the case contexts in which QPs (phrases in which GEN-Q is assigned) can occur in the different languages. It is further argued that this variation is best understood i...

An annotation scheme for Persian based on Autonomous Phrases Theory and Universal Dependencies

A treebank is a corpus with linguistic annotations above the level of the parts of speech. During the first half of the present decade, three treebanks have been developed for Persian either originally or subsequently based on dependency grammar: Persian Treebank (PerTreeBank), Persian Syntactic Dependency Treebank, and Uppsala Persian Dependency Treebank (UPDT). The syntactic analysis of a sen...
